Hangzhou Greentown v Dalian Zhixing

Hangzhou Greentown edged a five-goal thriller against Dalian Zhixing, winning 3-2 at Huanglong Stadium in a contest that the Lemeister model had projected as a narrow away victory. The model had given Dalian Zhixing a 38 per cent chance of winning and forecast a 2-1 away win, but the home side’s clinical finishing and a breathtaking two-minute response either side of Dalian’s equaliser proved decisive in a game defined by high shot volume and contrasting defensive organisation.

The statistics highlight a game where Dalian Zhixing did much of the running but failed to convert that into a win. They finished with 20 total shots to Hangzhou’s 16, and 11 of those came from inside the box compared to the home side’s six. Both teams registered seven shots on target, but the five saves from the Hangzhou goalkeeper against Dalian’s four underlined that the away team created the better chances. The result gives Hangzhou Greentown a vital three points in the Super League Regular Season round 20, overturning the Lemeister model’s pre-match projection of a Dalian win. For Dalian Zhixing, the defeat will sting, especially given their statistical dominance in possession and shots, but their defensive fragility in conceding twice in a minute after fighting back will be the immediate concern. Hangzhou’s ability to score the winner so quickly after being pegged back shows the resilience that may prove valuable as the season progresses.
